What type of bearing does the Wheeler Sunpredictor display?
The Wheeler Sunpredictor application automatically adjusts the bearings you are shown for magnetic declination. Therefore the bearings shown
on the "Prediction" tab of the application correspond to compass bearings.
I am shown a warning message that compass bearings cannot be computed, what does this mean?
The Wheeler Sunpredictor application automatically computes magnetic declination using the IGRF magnetic field model, as agreed in January 2005 by the IAGA Working Group V-MOD.
The IGRF magnetic field model allows us to apply valid magnetic declination values from 2005 to 2010. Values can be computed up to 2015 but
with a reduced accuracy. Magnetic declination values for dates before 2005 and after 2015 can not be computed.
If you are shown a warning message that compass bearing cannot be computed, this means that you have selected a date that is either before 2005 or
after 2015. The bearing that is given to you on the "Prediction" tab of the Wheeler Sunpredictor application will be a True North bearing, which means that it will
not be corrected for magnetic declination and therefore will not correspond to your compass bearing.
Do I need to set daylight savings?
No, if you have selected the correct time zone for your location, then the Wheeler Sunpredictor should
automatically apply daylight savings if required.
If daylight savings is being applied for your location, a small sun graphic, as well as the text "DST" will appear next to the
time zone and below the elevation control on the right hand side of the "Prediction" tab.
